Reference 1 (Film): Beyond Words



A young, deaf woman finds herself being stalked by a mysterious man.


The film is shot from the perspective of a blind man and deaf woman.

Deaf woman: there is no sound and therefore focused on visual movements and interactions.

Blind man: blank black screen and therefore focused on sound.


Relationship between two people and their sensory interactions, which is all brought together in the final scene where they are forced to interact.


There is obscurity and hidden perspectives within the film, as the characters gradually reveal themselves.


The film portrays how sound and sight can effect movement and perceptions.

eg. whilst in the gym class the blind man’s movements are often out of line with all of the other characters in the class.
